January 26, 2022 Oral Proceedings-Proposed Rule Changes

The Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (AZPOST) is in the process of updating its rules, the following are some proposed changes:

  • Clarify that “denial” of certification may be temporary or permanent
  • Remove the requirement that a full-authority basic training course contain 585 hours
  • Increase the total number of proficiency training required and require every peace officer to obtain proficiency training every year
  • Remove the definition of “experimentation” regarding illegal use of marijuana, a dangerous drug, or narcotic in Article 2

As part of the rule changing process, AZPOST will be holding Oral Proceedings for questions and comments at AZPOST on January 26, 2022 at 9:00 am. You can provide comments or suggestions in person at AZPOST or by email to Michael Giammarino at [email protected]. The proposed rules will be submitted to the Secretary of State’s Office with any comments or suggestions that are received during the Oral Proceedings.
